The legacy of Ed McGrail stands as one of the most remarkable journeys in Loomis Sayles’ history. As the longest serving employee in the firm’s history, Ed consistently exhibited steadfast commitment to the firm, his colleagues, and the pursuit of the organization’s mission to achieve outstanding outcomes for clients.

Ed’s connection to Loomis Sayles began earlier than many realize. As a high school student, he joined the firm through a work-study program at just 18 years old. Those early years required trade-offs that spoke to Ed’s commitment from the start; he often recalled spending afternoons setting up the printing press to support Loomis Sayles’ research rather than playing football for Boston Tech.

Through hard work and determination, Ed ascended to the role of Head of General Services. He became a trusted leader and an essential partner in shaping the firm’s corporate operations and global real estate strategy.  
Known for his quick wit, humor and genuine warmth, he brought a spirit of connection that enriched the culture of Loomis Sayles for decades. His legacy lives on in his son Ryan, who has established his own distinguished career over the last 20+ years in Credit Research.

As we reflect on our centennial anniversary, Ed’s story serves as a meaningful touchpoint for all employees, reminding us of who we are and who we aim to be. He will be remembered not only for his extraordinary 52-year tenure but for the culture of integrity and service he leaves behind — a defining example for future generations of Loomis Sayles colleagues.
